Welcome Aboard

The Bark Shanty Sail Club (BSSC) was founded in 1972 by a small group of dedicated sailors here in Port Sanilac. What began as a local club now draws members from across Central and Lower Michigan, all sharing a great harbor with easy access to Lake Huron and a reasonable drive from the Detroit and Flint areas.

Over the years we have grown into a full calendar of sailing and boating life: an active cruising group, social gatherings, races and regattas, and a crew of avid fishermen. The spirit, though, has never changed.

From the beginning, our purpose has been to foster friendship among sailors and powerboaters and to grow interest in the sport. The relaxed, family oriented feel of the club is what keeps members coming back, and it is what makes newcomers feel at home from their very first visit.

Our Mission

We exist to build a sailing and boating community where skills grow and confidence follows. Members sharpen their boat handling, safety, navigation, piloting, and racing strategy together, learning from one another along the way.

Our members range widely, from seasoned racers and cruisers to boaters who have yet to take their first overnight cruise or feel uneasy at a crowded starting line. By sharing knowledge and experience freely, we help everyone get more enjoyment out of their time on the water.
